Intro to Email Setup
Before you can send and receive email through your account at the Lorian Network, you must set up your email client program with the proper information.

Email Setup for your
own domain name.
If you have your own domain name, eg. "www.yourdomain.com," then mail access has been set up for your domain as well.

 Account/UserName: your full email address
 Password: your password
 SMTP Server: smtp.lorian.net
 POP/Mail Server: pop.lorian.net
Return Address: your full email address

Email Setup for a sub
domain of Lorian.
If you DO NOT have your own domain name, and are operating as a sub-domain of the Lorian Network, then setup your email client program as follows:

Account/UserName: your full email address (youraccount@lorian.net)
 Password: your password
 SMTP Server: smtp.lorian.net
 POP/Mail Server: pop.lorian.net
Return Address: your full email address

HELP!
I can receive email
but I can't send.
The Lorian Mail servers are set up so that you MUST try to RECEIVE email BEFORE you are allowed to SEND email. Make sure that you attempt to retreive your email before trying to send or you will receive an error message.

The reason this is done is to help prevent the proliferation of spam (unsolicited email). The process of trying to receive email sends your username and password for authentication. Once you are identified as a registered user, you are also allowed to send mail.

HELP!
I STILL can't send
email.
Some dial-up ISP's do not allow the use of a mail server for sending mail on another network other than their own (they block outgoing SMTP port 25). What's the solution? There are 2.

1) Get a different dial-up ISP that does allow the use of another outgoing mail server.
2) Use their mail server for outgoing mail as follows:

 Account/UserName: your full email address
 Password: your password
SMTP Server: your ISP's SMTP server
POP/Mail Server: pop.lorian.net (replace yourdomain.com with your domain)
Return Address: your full email address

Accessing email using
a web browser.
You can also access your email account through our Web browser interface, rather than using an email client program.
Use your web browser to go to Lorian WebMail at <http://webmail.lorian.net>.

What Email Program
should I use?
There are several email client programs available at no charge. The most popular are probably Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora from Qualcom and Netscape. See our Resources section for links and downloads.
